Geotechnical Monitoring 2024

Training and Telemetry Project PTVI

Overview

PT Vale Indonesia (PTVI) requires a comprehensive training program to strengthen its field engineering support for geotechnical monitoring. With a vast mining operation, challenges such as sensor troubleshooting, data connectivity issues, and system maintenance demand a skilled in-house team capable of responding swiftly. To address this, PT Telematika Aset Monitoring (TeAM) provided a five-day intensive training at PT Vale Indonesia’s Sorowako site, equipping engineers with the knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain monitoring systems independently.

Beyond troubleshooting, telemetry integration was also a key focus, ensuring that PT Vale’s monitoring system remains secure and efficient by utilizing their own loggers and connections. This approach enhances data security and system reliability, reducing downtime and dependency on external support. With this training, PT Vale Indonesia now has a more resilient and self-sufficient engineering team, capable of maintaining real-time geotechnical monitoring for safer and more efficient operations.

Monitoring

During an on-site visit to PT Vale Indonesia’s Sorowako site, PT Telematika Aset Monitoring (TeAM) actively assisted in the installation and commissioning of geotechnical monitoring instruments. Working alongside Vale’s field engineers, TeAM helped deploy in-place inclinometers and other key sensors, ensuring proper positioning and integration with the existing system. The team also conducted real-time checks to verify data accuracy and system stability in the field.

Beyond installation, TeAM provided practical troubleshooting training, guiding Vale engineers on diagnosing and resolving potential issues on-site. A critical part of the visit was ensuring seamless integration with Trimble 4D Control (T4D) server, already in use across Sorowako. By optimizing data transmission, visualization, and reporting, this collaboration enables Vale’s team to maintain and manage their monitoring network independently, minimizing operational disruptions and enhancing long-term system reliability.
